PRESS RELEASE

 

 

   The 15th Session of the Fourteenth Lok Sabha and the 215th Session of the Rajya Sabha is scheduled to commence on Thursday, the 12th of February, 2009 and subject to exigencies of Government Business, the Session may conclude on Thursday, the 26th of February, 2009.  The Session will provide 10 sittings spread over  a period of 15 days.

 

            The Session will mainly be devoted to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, Financial Business relating to Interim Railway and General Budgets for 2009-10 and Interim Budget for the State of Jharkhand for 2009-10.  However, time will also be provided for the transaction of essential Legislative and Non-Legislative business during the Session.

 

            The President will address both Houses of Parliament assembled together at 11.00 a.m. on Thursday, the 12th of February, 2009.  The Interim Railway Budget for 2009-10 will be presented in the Lok Sabha on Friday, the 13th of February, 2009 immediately after Question Hour and the Interim General Budget for 2009-10 at 11.00 a.m. on Monday, the 16th of February, 2009.

 

To finalise the Government Business for the ensuing Session of Parliament, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Overseas Indian Affairs took a meeting with Secretaries/senior officers of the concerned Ministries/Departments on 5.02.2009.  During the meeting, 39 items (27 Bills, 10 Financial items and 2 Non-Legislative items) were identified for the ensuing Session of Parliament.  The Bills identified for the Session includes three Bills replacing Ordinances, namely: (i) the High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Ordinance, 2009 (No. 1 of 2009); (ii) the Central Industrial Security Force (Amendment) Ordinance, 2009 (No. 2 of 2009); and (iii) the Central Universities Ordinance, 2009 (No. 3 of 2009), promulgated by the President during inter-session period.
